Pablo López: It is oneself with the piano – El Sol de Mazatlán

Pablo López says that his main love in the world of music has always been the piano: “When I was 5 years old, one day I was at school I saw a white piece of furniture, which was a wall piano and at that moment I was fascinated, I couldn’t even reach it, but someone helped me and lifted me up so I could put my hand on it… And from that moment I fell in love”, he confesses.

López assures that since then the idea of ​​having a piano never left his head: “That day I ran home, as best I could I explained it to my mother and from there I had the idea that I wanted a piano”.

He narrates that he was always looking for colleagues who had a piano at home in order to have an approach to the instrument:

“After playing on some occasions the pianos of friends, I began to study the career and the love shot up”.

However, he says that his relationship with the instrument could be compared to relationships between human beings:

“It’s a love that goes like all the loves we have for people, that is, they suddenly reach their maximum or end, and even end in hate, but since I fell in love with him, love has been increasing And it’s totally crazy.”

Although at that time Pablo could not have a piano due to lack of money and space, the Malaga-born happily recounts that 30 years later, he will finally be able to enjoy it:

“This Saturday, March 19, 30 years after being in school, they are going to give me the piano, which they have kept especially for me.”

NUMBERS ARE NOT EVERYTHING

However, he emphasizes that his connection with music goes beyond the love of an instrument:

“My idea is not to do massive concerts attended by 50,000 people who don’t feel anything, my goal has always been to connect with the public. Many people think that not doing great things is taking a step backwards, but I think it’s totally the opposite, because what’s the use of singing for 50 thousand people with whom you’re not creating a connection?

He affirms that the search for a connection with the public is a path that many artists do not dare to explore:

“Numbers are very important and I tell you as a freak of the figures, but for example, I have played several times in hotels and bars, places where people do not go to see you, but the fact that a single person came to listen to you and recognize your work fills you up more and It generates more mental processes in you than the screams of 20,000 people.”

He expresses that he has always had great respect for his audience, which translates into the nervousness he feels every time he goes on stage:

“Some artists have told me that the public is going to kill you, in a positive way, but that you also have to be attentive to it, give it love and respect it, something that I always try to do: Conduct myself in a respectful way as an artist and as a person”, judgment.

Within the panorama of a good relationship with his public, Pablo shares his happiness at seeing the affection of his followers reflected during his new tour:

“When the tickets came out, it took only a couple of hours for some shows to sell out, it seems incredible to me that in a country that is not mine, more than 800 or 900 people leave home and buy tickets to see me.”

He also said that in a world full of data, likes and streaming, there is nothing more human than playing a live concert:

“Getting to play in front of an audience generates a real connection with them and the two people whose hearts you touched, there may be four or five tomorrow”.

CONVENING POWER

During his 360-degree tour of Spain, Pablo blew up the Maestranza bullring in Seville with more than 12,000 people.

He narrated that this tour was the one with which he has most identified as a person and as a singer: “360 was a series of concerts that we did in Spain and in which I decided to take my house to a stage; with me in the middle of the bullring, together with a piano, a guitar, the sofas and the carpet of my house, but the most important thing is that I didn’t have a specific repertoire; I could be interpreting a song of mine and then I would go to another one by another artist. It was an unforgettable experience because that project reflected a lot about who I am as an artist and as a human being”.

His current tour “Pablo López Piano y Voz” will play Mexican stages such as the C3 Rooftop in Guadalajara, Café Iguana in Monterrey, La Glotonería de Querétaro, Sala Forum in Puebla and the Lunario in Mexico City, in June of this year.

DOESN’T LOSE THE FLOOR

Despite having a career as one of the most talented artists in Spanish music, four Latin Grammy nominations and more than 60 sold outs in a few hours, Pablo does not lose ground:

“It is not necessary to have or look for fluorescence in life, the greatest joy and inspiration is found on the street, in your own home and with your family; each place is a unique setting, there is no need to go looking for non-existent extravagances to feel that you are doing it right, all of this is sought after you already have a song and you seek to fill it with that fantasy that music offers you”.

He expressed that the stories his songs tell arise from the perspective of a man like any other:

“All part of real stories that you can see how anyone who stumbles, who sleeps, goes to the bathroom, has a hangover, has insomnia and sometimes catches a cold.”

He says he is proud to be able to belong to music and considers himself lucky to at least have the opportunity to try to do something in the art world.

He adds that the most important promotion that an artist can have is live performances, to which some colleagues in the media have helped him:

“There is no greater promotion than playing live, even when some artists have invited me to open their concerts, like Juanes in Colombia, the public was very surprised to see me singing and playing there.”

He adds that he has had the opportunity to share experiences with celebrities such as Alejandro Sanz, David Bisbal, Pablo Alborán and Rapahel, for whom he is working on a complete album made up of 13 singles.

IN FILM AND TV

Pablo has a repertoire of 80 songs composed between his singles, collaborations with other artists and film productions.

About his experience with Disney when composing and interpreting the song “Escucha la vida”, one of the soundtracks of said film, he comments:

“I’ll tell you that I didn’t see the movie when I wrote the song even though Disney suggested it to me, but they explained the synopsis to me and I got carried away, telling you that I wrote the song in just one hour.”

Being a film that lent itself to many interpretations by the public, we asked Pablo what message he wanted to convey with the lyrics of that song?:

“Literally it is that I fell to the ground, you have seen me fall, but I get up with a smile and tell you that what I want most is to fall again because I learned a lot by doing it and I am not ashamed of having torn my pants a little , I get up again because I’m looking for something, but the best thing that can happen to me is not finding it,” he said.

Also, his musical career has been marked by his time on the program La Voz, where he has participated since 2015.

“My experience as coach of La Voz has been something addictive, because it is a place where all the people are passionate about music, not only the participants or their fellow chairs, but all the other collaborators, from the cameramen to the stage people, they do their work with passion and that is reflected in a germ that fills you with joy”.

And he assures that this is one of the projects to which he will always say yes:

“Every time he calls me on the phone and I am given the opportunity, I say yes, despite the fact that it is a great effort and a mental and emotional whirlpool, but I always get a smile from both ears because I feel privileged to be considered and be part of this project”.

The man from Malaga said that one of the things that has served him the most as a human being is that he does not regret anything he does:

“It is the only thing that I set out to do without realizing it since I was a child, that nothing should embarrass me so as not to think later, why did I write or say that? Every step I take in music is safe and I can say that of all my songs, I do not regret a comma, any sound or any tuning or out of tune of them.

Among some of its virtues, patience stands out, an aspect that it ensures maximized during the pandemic:

“I am a person of wanting and doing things at that very moment; take a flight, see a person, go to the bar and even go to the studio to record, but this crisis helped me to give all things their time and with it helped me to listen more to others”.

He shares that one of his favorite hobbies during the pandemic was his little tomato tree:

“During the crisis I planted a tomato tree at home which also helped me regain my patience, as these trees grow very slowly, but I was delighted to see them grow little by little.”

And he adds that although he was infected twice with Covid, today he is more energetic than ever to captivate his audience from all over the world:

“Today as always, I intend to make my audience fall in love and I am ready to offer shows in which people let themselves go.
