México CITY.- After the victory he had against Gennady Golovkin this Saturday, in what meant the end of one of the most important boxing trilogies of recent times, Saúl Álvarez stated that he will be out of boxing for a while, this due to to the fact that he suffers an injury to his left hand and that in this last fight the discomfort was key to not being 100%.

«(The hand) It hurts everywhere, I suffered from it since the fight with Caleb Plant, but I said I could hold on until they told me I needed surgery and tonight I couldn’t stand it. It is not broken, it is a problem with the menisci and the cartilage in the wrist », he declared in a post-fight conference, in which one of his doctors indicated that if he underwent surgery, his recovery would take between six to eight weeks.

Even so, the unified super middleweight champion will take a long time to return to the ring, which would be between eight months or a year, «Time is short, but I am going to take my time. I have fought four times in 11 months and I must take time, maybe for May or until September.

Alvarez will take a break from fighting, but that doesn’t mean he’ll stop training all this time to think about which one, too.
