President Andrés Manuel López Obrador anticipated that the tests of the Mayan Train would begin in July 2023 and the inauguration would be at the end of the same year. However, he stated that the first test runs in electrified sections are still being analyzed, according to the progress recorded by the work, carried out by the Secretary of National Defense and the National Fund for the Promotion of Tourism.
Likewise, he said that the first wagons manufactured at the Alstom-Bombardier plant -located in Ciudad Sahagún, Hidalgo-, will be delivered in mid-2023 and with this the tests will begin.
He also explained that various bus stops, hotels, as well as natural parks are already under construction, to deliver in time and form for the promised date.
“We are going to inaugurate the work in December, although the trial period will begin in July in a section […] We are seeing if we start in the electrified section, from Edzná, well, from Campeche, which will not be electrified, but from Mérida, Cancún, Chetumal, to see if we can”, he pointed out.
“If not, in July, for the tests, without a doubt Mérida-Cancún, and it could be Tulum and Chetumal, but we are already going to be very advanced and by December everything, everything,” he specified during his morning press conference, held in the National Palace.
“The first train carriages begin to be delivered to us in July, little by little, they are what they are doing in Ciudad Sahagún, and we are going to have four or six passenger trains in December, it will be possible to travel all the area,” he added.
