This January 21, the mayoress of Santa María del Río, San Luis Potosí, Edna Yuriria del Carmen Medina Flores, resigned from her post due to death threats and a smear campaign against her and her family.

After the mayor Emmanuel Díaz lost his life in an accident on December 31. Edna took her place after receiving the endorsement of the council, however she only lasted 17 days.

The former mayoress of Santa María del Río pointed out that she and her family received death threats because they opposed the construction of a gas station in the center of her town, due to the risk it poses to boys and girls from nearby schools, among other people. .

“I no longer want death threats against my family and myself, (…) you know that work is following its course, you know that this work is full of corruption, forgive me because this has already gotten out of hand, I want you to know that my Family is the most sacred thing and I don’t expect you to understand it but that’s how I see it, I just hope that you as a people don’t let this work take place in the center that will endanger the lives of the children who attend the Miguel school Angel, the students of the Pascual María Hdz elementary school. and from the Fco. González Bocanegra elementary school and the young people from the José María Vilaseca secondary and high school”
