Former director of Zoochilpan, accused of animal abuse and diversion of resources – El Sol de Mazatlán

The head of the Secretariat of Government Oversight and Transparency, Eduardo Loría Casanova reported that the former director of the Zoochilpan zoo, José Rubén Nava Noriega, allegedly committed nine fouls, from animal abuse to diversion of resources.

The official reported that The investigation against the former director began on December 13 last after receiving a complaint document from the head of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of Guerrero Angel Almazan Juarez.

At a press conference, Loría revealed that since the investigations began, a series of offenses in which Nava Noriega would have incurred was listed.

These are faults that have to do with misconduct, institutional omissions, animal abuse, medical negligence (by death of a white tailed deer), unethical conduct, as well as mismanagement of public resources, since no evidence of income for exchanging copies.

Also, there are accusations of illegal trafficking of species, workplace harassment, concealment of information of public interest, as well as diversion of resources, which would imply a serious offense, which could transcend to a criminal matter.

Loría Casanova emphasized that the emerging actions mean that the investigation will have to be expanded, and for this, a an audit to the Zoochilpan zoo.

Due to the offenses committed, the former director of the zoo could be sanctioned, disqualified and, if he continued in charge, he could be dismissed, according to the final resolution of the investigations.

On the other hand, he commented that serious offenses could be turned over to the Court of Administrative Justice, which would be the body in charge of reporting to the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE).

He mentioned that in the case of medical negligence, Nava Noriega could be sanctioned with his professional certificate and title as zootechnical veterinarian be left without effect, as well as compensation for damage with charges and fines.
