México City.- President Andrés Manuel López Obrador highlighted México’s 11-5 victory over the United States in the World Baseball Classic.

During the morning, López Obrador recognized the Mexicans who did not “shrink” and showed head, heart, character, courage, passion and serenity.

“The Mexicans were superior, much better, they hit well, they didn’t shrink, baseball is like good politics, head, heart and character, and a lot of courage, passion and serenity, nothing about the fact that I have the best hitter, the second best hitter in Major League Baseball and I’m not going to know what to throw at him, yesterday’s pitchers with a lot of aplomb,” he said.

“Last night’s game was very important and we won it.”

The president congratulated the ninth Mexican team and expressed that they beat “the best baseball players in the Major Leagues.”

“We are going to congratulate the baseball players who are representing us in the World Baseball Classic, they won yesterday, they looked pretty good, like horses, that’s what they say in baseball, they represented México with great dignity and they beat the United States, we are talking one of the best major league baseball players in the United States”.

“And the ninth Mexican, from the first inning he began to make runs.”

The federal president highlighted the work of Sinaloan Joey Meneses, the first baseman who hit two home runs, including a crucial three-run one in the fourth inning.

“The first baseman, Meneses, stood out a lot, he is from Culiacán, Sinaloa he was in triple A, he belongs, I think, to Washington in the Major Leagues, when Soto comes out, who is one of the most important hitters in the Major Leagues, they transfer him, they fix it, he goes to San Diego, Meneses is promoted to the big team of Washington and since he arrived he began to hit above 300 in the regular season, they unfairly relegated him, he’s like him, Soto, of course, he doesn’t earn what Soto, he earns much less, but he’s a great hitter, tremendous hitter, yesterday he hit two home runs from the first inning, they congratulated him a lot, he was the most valuable yesterday, he produced runs, I think 3 or 4 of the 11, yesterday,” AMLO said.

And he also praised the work of Cuban, Mexican national, Randy Arozarena, a left fielder who hit two doubles.

“And the other one who looked great was Arozarena, of Cuban origin, he was in México (…) he asked us that he wanted to become a Mexican national, and that he was going to play with the Mexican team and he is complying, we gave him nationality last year and there he is, very applied, he hit a double, I stayed up watching the game, it was worth it,” he launched.

López Obrador said that starting pitcher Patrick Jordan Sandoval “was phenomenal” and took the bat from the “best in the United States.”

“Benjamín Gil was masterfully directed, he opened, Sandoval, who was phenomenal, a left-handed pitcher, there was the question of how Sandoval was going to face the best in the United States. He took the bat from them, and then very rightly Benjamin Gil, the manager, handled the relays”, highlighted the chief executive.

In addition, he affirmed that the reliever Javier Assad “wet the gunpowder” to the Americans.

“Pitcher Javier Assad, reliever, and everyone else was also very good, it’s not just anything to stop, to wet the gunpowder to those gunboats from the United States,” he said.

Subsequently, a summary of the game was shown on the screens in the morning.
