Pumas dismisses Rafael Puente as DT after defeat against Pachuca

México CITY (proceso.com.mx).– Through a statement, Pumas made official the dismissal of Rafael Puente del Río as the team’s technical director. The decision occurred a few hours after the Auriazules’ 2-0 loss to Pachuca at the Estadio Olímpico Universitario.

“The National University Club informs that, by mutual agreement, the employment relationship with Rafael Puente as technical director of the Pumas men’s first team, as well as with all his coaching staff, has been terminated. The Club appreciates the work and professionalism of all of them and wishes them success in their future projects”, reads the communication.

Rafael Puente was in charge of the Pumas throughout 12 games; he had three wins, two draws and seven losses. Currently, the university team occupies the 16th position with 11 points, seven more than Mazatlán, the last place in the general table and, with the last five days of the regular tournament remaining, it is one point away from being able to enter the playoff zone.

The next game for the Auriazules will be next Sunday, April 2. When they visit Querétaro. And, for the moment, the directive has not announced if there will be an interim technical director or, if they already have a name to occupy the position of helmsman.
