President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador recognized that he had differences with the directors of iberdrola during the negotiations to buy the 13 power generating plants in México, where he was even called “a populist.”
When recounting the process to acquire the plants of the Spanish company, AMLO He said that the managers behaved very well, however, he indicated that he did not miss the opportunity to claim the fact that having hired Felipe Calderón after leaving the presidency of México in 2012.
“In addition, they behaved well and we talked, we had strong differences with him. First, because it is offensive for a company to take a president to work as an employee, it’s a mockery, I told him that, he replied that I was a populist and we confronted each other, we had differences and look at the importance of dialogue, we said ‘this it’s an option,’” declared the federal president from La Mañanera.
On the other hand, Andrés Manuel celebrated the acquisition of the electricity generating plants, since the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) will become the main energy producer in the country.
“In essence, what is guaranteed is that the price of electricity will not increase. (…) We carried out this operation, this purchase, to strengthen the public company Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) and in this way be able to offer electricity at fair prices”, he mentioned.
Purchase from Iberdrola
With an investment of almost 6 billion dollars, the purchase will be completed in the next five months in order to carry out “a new nationalization” of the electricity industry, according to AMLO.

These are 12 combined cycle plants and a wind power plant, which add up to 13 electricity generation plants distributed in the following states:
