México CITY.- If you are a user of the High Consumption Domestic Service (DAC) of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), get ready to pay more for electricity as of June 1.
The CFE has announced an increase in the DAC rate compared to the previous month, according to Official Letter No. 349-B-1-I-055 published on May 24. However, it is not all bad news: the CFE has also implemented discounts in the summer 2023 rate for some locations that suffer from high temperatures.
What is the new charge in the DAC fee?
The DAC rate is applied to users who consume more electrical energy than what corresponds to them according to their socioeconomic level. To determine the amount of the rate, the CFE has established adjustment factors for the Fixed Charge and the Charge for Energy Consumed. These factors are the following: 1.0007 for the Fixed Charge and 0.9875 for the Charge for Consumed Energy.
As a result, the amount of the DAC rate has been set at 132.02 pesos for each hour of energy consumed, which represents an increase compared to 131.93 pesos in May and 131.61 pesos in April. This figure is the highest of the year so far.
Which locations have discounts on the summer rate?
The CFE has granted discounts on the summer 2023 rate to certain locations that register high temperatures during this time of year. The goal is to prevent people from paying excessive prices for the use of air conditioning and refrigeration systems to mitigate the heat.
The classification of the rates depends on the average minimum temperature in summer of each place, from Rate 1A with 25 degrees Celsius to Rate 1F with 33 degrees Celsius.
Some of the cities that benefit from these discounts are Acapulco, Ciudad Acuña, Cancún, Coatzacoalcos, Tampico, Tepic, Campeche, Torreón, Monterrey, Mérida and Chetumal. The discounts will be valid from May 1 to October 31.
However, there are states that will not have these CFE discounts for the summer 2023 rate. These states are México City, the State of México, Guanajuato, Michoacán, Hidalgo, Jalisco, Puebla, San Luis Potosí, Tlaxcala, Zacatecas and Queretaro.
How to apply for CFE discounts?
If you live in one of the areas where the CFE discounts are applied, you should know that to access the subsidy you must meet two requirements: that your electrical connection is individual in your home and that your energy consumption is not considered high consumption. If you meet these conditions, you won’t have to do any additional paperwork: the discount will be automatically applied to your bill.
Fact
Remember that as of June 1st, the new charge in the DAC rate and the discounts in the summer 2023 rate will come into effect. Check your electricity consumption and take advantage of the benefits offered by the CFE.
