Mazatlán. – To guarantee the sustainability of the economic resource, it is essential that shrimp fishing be carried out in the best possible conditions, stated the vice president of the National Chamber of the Fishing and Aquaculture Industry, Humberto Becerra Batista.
He commented that in Sinaloa An inspection and surveillance program is being implemented, from which good results are expected, and which will soon meet with the Secretary of the Navy to strengthen the operations that are carried out throughout the state for the sake of shrimp fishing.
Becerra Batista indicated that one should be prepared from the first day that the shrimp ban is established, since the most important thing is to protect the product and thus avoid illegal fishing, a very serious problem that greatly damages the economy of all the areas where shrimp is caught.
“The repercussions are not only for the fisherman, but for the companies, the fishing communities and all the people who in some way depend on this activity, which are estimated at more than 24 million people throughout the country who benefit from the 242 fishing communities that currently exist”, he highlighted.
He also added that intensive work is being done hand in hand with the authorities to improve all conditions for the fishing sector, which performs very important work for the entire country.
Finally, he stressed that the will exists and a joint agenda has already been drawn up to reduce the impact that illegal fishing has had in recent years and thus be able to make decisions that help them in this regard.
