Seven displaced people were killed and three wounded in an attack by an armed group that broke into a warehouse located in the Polhó community, Chenalhó municipality, where displaced people from the Santa Martha community are sheltering on Friday night.
The State Attorney General’s Office initiated an investigation folder for the crimes of Homicide and injuries against the person or persons responsible for the attack.
According to the first reports, in the last few hours a group of armed people showed up at a warehouse located in the Polhó community, Chenalhó municipality, where displaced persons from the Santa Martha community, from the aforementioned municipality, are sheltering. they began firing firearms
Elements of the Investigative and State Preventive Police went to the scene, with the purpose of restoring order and starting the first investigations.
The injured people were transferred to various hospitals in San Cristóbal de Las Casas, where they receive medical attention.
The newspaper Reforma reported that according to preliminary reports, the attackers entered a warehouse and shot men, women and children who had taken refuge after being expelled from their community due to land conflicts in past months.
Local media attributed the attack to the dispute over 22 hectares between Chalchihuitán and the Santa Martha sector, in which more than 200 people from some 60 families are involved.
