President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reported that this Tuesday he would hold a meeting with his legal and expanded cabinet to ask its members if they will continue or resign from their positions, to seek a candidacy in the 2024 elections, because it will not allow that use their public positions for electoral purposes.
During his morning press conference, he announced that after said meeting he would define the replacements of the people who would leave and find out which team will accompany him at the end of his six-year term.
Likewise, he stressed that his cabinet was the first to be equitable with the same number of men and women. He added that there were young people who, if they were elected in the 2024 elections, could continue with the transformation in the next Administration.
“Tomorrow I am going to have a meeting with the entire extended cabinet, and what I am going to do is thank you very much for everything you are doing. […] And it is the first cabinet that has the same number of men as women and it will continue like this, half men, half women,” he said.
“Tomorrow’s meeting is to tell them: ‘let’s see, do you want to continue to finish or do you plan to participate as a candidate’, because that is also legitimate; However, I need to know why changes cannot be made anymore, ”she insisted.
“And take advantage [para preguntar]: who will be there until the end of September of next year and who will participate as candidates for Congress or governorships?, or whatever has to be chosen”, he highlighted.
López Obrador described Marcelo Ebrard Casaubón and Adán Augusto López Hernández as “very good public servants”, of whom he is already analyzing their replacement in the Foreign Relations and Interior Secretariats, respectively, due to their departure from the cabinet to contend in the internal process of Morenaheading to the 2024 presidential election.
“I think that this week we are going to announce who is going to replace Marcelo Ebrard and also this week the Secretary of the Interior Adán Augusto López Hernández will surely present his resignation, both very good public servants,” he commented.
As approved by the National Council of Morenait is expected that between June 12 and 16, 2023 those interested in the presidential candidacy of Morena register with the Elections Commission of said party, after resigning from their public office.
“I can’t talk about that, it seems to me not only in this case, but in all of them, unity is important,” he said, when questioned about it. However, he described as good that the rules for electing the national coordinator of the Defense Committees of the Fourth Transformation were unanimously approved, from where the next candidate for the Presidency of the Republic of Morena.
“Loyalty is another term that must be analyzed, because loyalty to men and women is relative, it is not true. Loyalty that is authentic is loyalty to the project, that we unite, that we act united to a project, not to a person, man or woman. Because that loyalty is a lie, and many times it is pandering, those who are cajolery, while they are in charge or commissioned, ”he said.
“In all cases, unity is important. For the conservative bloc it is important that everyone unite and defend a project, an ideal, a doctrine. Put aside pragmatism, the search for power for power’s sake, that they are only interested in charges: ‘I want to be multiple, I want to be a deputy, I want to be a senator, I want to be president, I want to be president,’” she insisted.
“No, the ideals, it does not make them conservative ideals, but they defend a project for what they believe, because if it is not like that, it is pure personal ambition, it is politicking […] It’s very important, I can’t talk about the candidates. Yesterday it was agreed that the President of the Republic cannot be in favor of or against any of those who aspire to be coordinators, coordinators of the transformation; coordinator or coordinators of the Transformation”, he added.
“On the left flank, defending the transformation, which is defending the people, which is not allowing classicism, racism, discrimination, not allowing corruption that privileges do not return. Don’t bet on living in a country with monstrous economic and social inequality, let México belong to everyone,” he said.
“Those are ideals, they are principles: not to lie, not to steal, not to betray the people. So that is what has to be put forward and not personal interest, however legitimate it may be, and that on one side, I repeat, or on the other, so it’s great that yesterday they reported that unanimously, that is, everyone approved the rules Hopefully this will happen on the right flank,” he said.
