AMLO assures that kidnappings in Culiacán are part of confrontation between gangs

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador addressed the recent mass kidnappings in Culiacán, Sinaloa pointing out that these incidents are the result of a confrontation between criminal gangs.

In a morning press conference from the National Palace, the president reported that most of the victims have been rescued and have returned safely to their homes. According to him, around 60 or 66 people were kidnapped, of which 58 have been located and eight are still to be found. Fortunately, he pointed out that there are no minors among the missing and that work has been underway to identify the missing from the first moment.

In response to these events, AMLO detailed that there are already 1,800 elements of the Armed Forces deployed in the state of Sinaloa. Likewise, he confirmed that in the early hours of Sunday, March 24, a confrontation occurred in which one soldier lost his life, another was injured and three people were arrested.

Finally, the president expressed his condolences to the relatives of the deceased soldier and sent a message of support to the families of the eight missing, ensuring that efforts are being made to find them and guarantee their safety.
