Mazatlán, Sin. -In response to citizen complaints of extortion in the rural roads that lead to Mazatlán, the mayor Edgar González Zatarain announced that security will be reinforced through National Guard.

He confirmed that there are reports of assaults and extortion and that so far they are aware of at least five cases in recent weeks.

“Security must be reinforced, we have learned that some incidents have occurred on the roads, we are seeking to reinforce it through the National Guard, it is up to them to protect that area. Yes there are reports, there is another case that was also reported, it was on the Escuinapa side, now on the day of the eclipse, the last April 8, this issue must be followed up a lot. There is talk about how they stop trucks and take money from them.” he pointed.

Given this situation, he assured that working groups are being carried out with the federal authorities to address this problem and guarantee the protection of visitors and residents of Mazatlán.

The mayor of Mazatlán admitted that this type of facts negatively impact the image of the port, given that the majority of tourists arrive by road, either in vehicles private or buses.

It should be noted that criminals are boarding trucks on the roads to demand money, and many drivers give in to fear for their physical integrity. This is the main reason to reinforce security on these roads.
