The goal of raising .4 million has not yet been reached at the Mazatlán Red Cross

MAZATLÁN._ Although the 2024 Annual Collection of the Mexican Red Cross has officially concluded, in the Mazatlán Delegation it is still collecting because it has not yet reached the goal of 4 million 400 thousand pesos, it has only raised 1 million 985 thousand pesos.

“It has officially ended, but we have not yet reached our goal and we are still collecting wherever we can and we will gladly accept anyone who would like to continue donating,” said Elizabeth Sánchez Carrillo, Administrative Director of the Mexican Red Cross Mazatlán Delegation.

“(The goal is to raise) 4 million 400 thousand pesos, however, right now we have 1 million 985 thousand pesos, we still need to raise more, but we want to reach at least 2 million.”

He said he does not know if it is because of the economic crisis, but people have a hard time believing in this institution even though it has been working, it has its transparency report stating how the resources are spent, but people are still a bit apathetic in supporting this institution with donations.

“This time we are a little higher than last year and the year before (in terms of collection), and the goals are also very high because it is thought that since we are in a big city, everyone will cooperate, but we also have a large floating population that comes on vacation and is not willing to cooperate,” added Sánchez Carrillo.

He said that at the beginning the National Collection had a goal of 2 million pesos, then 3 million pesos, however, they never reached those goals, only 1.5 million pesos or 1.8 million pesos at most were collected.

The administrative director of the Mexican Red Cross Mazatlán Delegation reported that this institution has an annual expenditure of approximately 15 million pesos and this year it is expected to collect at most 2 million pesos in this collection.

“But it does help me at least to buy an ambulance, …the other resources we provide ambulance services, for example the special services, if the Convention Center organizes an event they call us and we do charge for that service, if someone asks me for a transfer or a patient who simply for convenience does not want to travel in trucks or in some other way they call us and we transfer that patient, as long as their life is not at risk and then we charge, but if the patient’s life is at risk that is considered an emergency and we do not charge any money,” he said.

“Here, in the medical area (at the Hospital), a 50 peso recovery fee is requested for consultations, but we don’t charge for most of them because they are homeless people, orphanages, rehabilitation centers. We don’t charge for all those people, but this way we help each other more or less, in addition to the help we receive from the Land Registry. You see, the Land Registry retains a small portion when the Property Tax is paid, which helps us a lot. We do raffles, we do different types of events, we are always moving to collect funds.”

He said that with all this, sometimes they do not have all 15 million pesos that are needed to operate the entire year and sometimes they barely manage to obtain them, unlike companies that have profits, the Red Cross does not have profits, it works for the benefit of the population, not to make a profit.

“Right now, the businessmen who donate to us are the same as always, but there are small businessmen with whom we want to work, it doesn’t matter if they give us one peso, 10 pesos, 50 pesos, any help counts, if we all contribute even 10 pesos, all of us, I think it would be very useful, 10 pesos I think would not affect anyone,” he reiterated.

“We invite them to really trust us, to believe that the reports are there and that they can come and visit us on any day they like, see how our facilities are, so that they can see what the money we raise has been used for.”
