Hospitalizations due to COVID-19 increase in Sinaloa; There are 15 patients currently hospitalized

-Most hospitalized patients have pre-existing conditions, says Health Secretary-

Culiacan, Sin. The Secretary of Health of Sinaloa Cuitláhuac González Galindo, reported that there are currently 15 patients hospitalized for COVID-19 in the state. These patients are in private clinics and hospitals of the health system, being treated in Culiacán, Mazatlán, Los Mochis and Guasave.

González Galindo explained that most of these patients were initially hospitalized for other health problems, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), diabetes, heart disease or immunosuppression problems. It was during their treatment that tests detected the coronavirus infection.

“Aside from this, we have been reporting a mortality rate so far this month, and right now there are 15 hospitalized. We have an estimate of around 40 patients hospitalized this year, and when there is a respiratory problem, the test is always done because that is how it is being done, and if they come out positive, it does not mean that they have that problem per se,” said the secretary.

Of the 15 hospitalized patients, one is 33 years old and the rest are over 60 years old. The secretary stressed that there is a slight increase in the number of infected people, since previously the monthly average was between 15 and 20 cases, while currently it is around 35. However, no new strain of the coronavirus has been detected.

In Sinaloa There are around a thousand vaccines available, and although this number is limited, the state has a high vaccination coverage, with more than 97 percent of the population vaccinated. González Galindo emphasized that the recommendation to wear face masks has been maintained in hospitals and for patients with respiratory conditions.
