San Francisco Bay Oakland International welcomes Viva Aerobus for first-ever nonstop between OAK and Monterrey, Nuevo León, México

Viva Aerobus, México’s ultra-low-cost airline, has launched a new direct flight between San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport (OAK) and Monterrey, Nuevo León. The flights are perfect for tech workers commuting between the two regions, with departures on Monday and Friday.

Flight Schedule:

– Depart from Monterrey International Airport (MTY): 9:35 AM

– Arrive at San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport (OAK): 12:25 PM

– Depart from San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport (OAK): 1:55 PM

– Arrive at Monterrey International Airport (MTY): 6:45 PM

According to Craig Simon, Director of Aviation at the Port of Oakland, “Viva Aerobus is a win for OAK reflecting many years of effort and planning. This flight will lead to even closer ties and economic development between the San Francisco Bay Area, especially the East Bay, and Nuevo León.”

Juan Carlos Zuazua, CEO of Viva Aerobus, expressed his excitement about the new route: “We are thrilled to begin operating this new route, connecting the San Francisco Bay Area to our hometown of Monterrey. This nonstop flight will allow passengers to fly between these regions with low fares and easy connections through our Monterrey hub to over 30 leisure and business destinations in México.”

Monterrey is known as the “Business Capital of México” and home to a growing entrepreneurial ecosystem, including Viva Aerobus’ headquarters. The city also hosts manufacturing plants for automaker Tesla, which has a plant in Fremont, California, near OAK.

Viva Aerobus will operate the A320 and A321Neo airliners on the OAK service, seating 186 and 240 passengers respectively. Passengers can enjoy assigned seating with “Priority” and “Space +” options, as well as Wi-Fi access and onboard entertainment through “Viva Play”. Food and beverages are available for purchase onboard.

The airline has a hub at Monterrey, allowing for easy connections between the new flight and its extensive network of destinations throughout México. Viva Aerobus was named “Low-Cost Airline of the Year in 2023” and operates the youngest Latin American fleet with 83 Airbus aircraft.
