The Altiplano region has an ideal climate and high mineral content that has helped put San Luis Potosi on the map for the production of the world’s great wines.
San Luis Potosi, known for its arid landscapes and rich mining history, is also prominent in the wine industry thanks to Cava Quintanilla.
This winery, located in the municipality of Moctezuma, in the Altiplano region, at an altitude of 1,630 meters above sea level and 90 minutes from the capital of San Luis Potosi, has made history in the production of quality wines, gaining prestige not only nationally, but also internationally.
With 120 hectares of land dedicated to the cultivation of vineyards, Cava Quintanilla has positioned itself as a production house with 11 red grape varieties and three white grape varieties on the market.
Carlos Quintanilla, the founder, emphasized that the terrain, characterized by a semi-desert climate and deep clay soil with a high mineral content that gives the wine body, good intensity, coloring, and very intense aromatic profiles, provided the perfect conditions for the cultivation of various varieties of grapes, among which Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay stand out, varieties that became the basis of its wines.
Since its beginnings in 2016, Cava Quintanilla has been committed to taking meticulous care of each harvest, from the selection of the grapes to the fermentation and aging process in French and American oak barrels, which gives the wines a distinctive complementary aromatic profile and an evolution towards elegance.
One of the most important milestones for Cava Quintanilla was its participation in the prestigious Brussels World Competition 2023, an international event that awards the best wines in the world.
On that occasion, the San Luis Potosí winery won several awards, beating renowned competitors from other wine regions with a gold medal for the Chardonnay reserve. This recognition was not only a source of pride for the winery but also for San Luis Potosí, which began to be seen as an emerging producer in the wine scene.
