México CITY (apro).- Liga MX announced the progress that teams have made in giving opportunities and minutes to young players to comply with the famous “minor rule.”
Prior to Matchday 9 of the Mexican tournament, some teams have already completed the mandatory 1,000 minutes, while others have not even completed half of it. According to the statistics presented by Liga MX, a total of 24,274 minutes have been recorded for Mexican players under 23 years of age. In total, 131 players are part of this count and 34 of them have already debuted during the Apertura 2024.
Which teams have already complied with the rule of minors?
Halfway through the 2024 Apertura tournament, only four clubs can boast that they have met the 1,000-minute quota required by Liga MX: Pachuca with 2,049, Santos 1,341, Necaxa 1,329, and Guadalajara 1,059. So it will be up to the coaches to decide whether to continue fielding the players, as it will no longer be mandatory.
The teams that have not accumulated so many minutes are: Tigres (260.6), Toluca (279), Cruz Azul (305.8), Puebla (335) and América (387.6).
In this first stage of the Youth Rule, teams will be required to meet a total of 1,000 minutes for youth players. The structure of the rule establishes that players born in 2005 and later must meet 100% of the assigned minutes, while players from the 2004, 2003, 2002, and 2001 categories must meet 80%, 60%, 40%, and 20% of the minutes, respectively.
