MAZATLÁN.- The Venados de Mazatlán are preparing intensely for the 2024-2025 season of the Mexican Pacific League, which starts on October 13. This year, the team has young talents who promise to shine, including Santiago Gómez, a 20-year-old shortstop who has captured attention for his great potential.
Gómez, who was part of the FCL Yankees, a subsidiary of the New York Yankees in the MiLB Rookie League, returns to Mazatlán excited and grateful to the Venados management for the trust placed in him.
During his time with the Yankees in the Rookie League, Gomez made 81 plate appearances, where he scored 16 runs, had 26 hits, reached 34 bases, hit two home runs, drove in 16 runs, drew seven walks, stole nine bases and maintained a .321 average.
This is his third participation in the Venados’ training camp, where he seeks to demonstrate the growth and maturity he has acquired with the Yankees.
“I had a great opportunity with the Yankees, it was a very positive season. I learned a lot, I improved in batting and fielding, and now I want to show it here with the Venados,” he said.
