The magic of the story: Mónica Lavín gives a master class

MAZATLÁN.- From October 3 to 5, the Ángela Peralta Gallery will host the Ramón Rubín Master Class in Short Story, by the renowned writer Mónica Lavín, invited by the College of Sinaloa.

She is the author of more than twenty books of short stories, novels and essays.

The first session of the chair, promoted by the College of Sinaloa and the Municipal Institute of Culture, Tourism and Art of Mazatlán, with the support of the writer Karina Castillo, took place from September 9 to 14 at Casa Haas.

The Ramón Rubín Master Class is a unique opportunity for writers, students and literature lovers to learn the techniques and secrets of the narrative art of one of the most prominent figures in contemporary Mexican literature.

The main topic will be Writing a story and will focus on the importance of the story as a literary genre.

The intention is for participants to become familiar with the characteristics of the short story genre, through reading and analyzing key pieces and authors, which will allow them to express their creativity through techniques for writing a publishable story.

Sessions will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday to Friday, and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Who is Monica Lavin?

Mónica Lavín is the winner of the Gilberto Owen National Literature Prize and the Elena Poniatowska Ibero-American Novel Prize, among other distinctions.

She has been a promoter of the contemporary Mexican short story through anthologies published in the United States, Panama and Italy.

Among his most recent publications are: When they talk to you about lovein 2017, nominated for the Mario Vargas Llosa Novel Biennial; All about usin 2019; and the story book The wild sidein 2024), to name a few

She is co-author with Ana Benítez Muro of Sor Juana in the kitchen, reissued by Planeta, in 2022
