-Kilometer 168 at the height of the “El Sinaloense” tunnel becomes the scene of a double homicide that paralyzes traffic and forces the closure of toll booths in Mesillas and Coscomate-
Mazatlán, Sinaloa.- The State Public Security Secretariat (SSPE) confirmed the location of two lifeless bodies on the Mazatlán-Durango highway, at kilometer 168, right at the exit of the “El Sinaloense” tunnel. This discovery forced the closure of the highway in both directions, generating concern and road chaos in the area.
The closure of the Mazatlán-Durango highway has been extended due to research work in the area. The SSPE, through social networks, detailed that although the area is clear, the road remains closed while the corresponding procedures are carried out. Federal Roads and Bridges (Capufe) reported that the toll booths in Mesillas, Concordia, and Coscomate, Durango, remain closed for the safety of staff.
In addition to the bodies found, the road was obstructed by two trailers that were crossed in the two lanes of the tunnel. One of the vehicles is a green tractor-trailer with a refrigerated box, while the other corresponds to a double trailer fuel tanker. So far, it is unknown if these units have intentional damage or if they were strategically placed to block the highway.
The authorities received reports of people dying from gunshot wounds and the presence of tire blowers in the area, which reinforces the hypothesis of a possible attack. In response, a coordinated operation was deployed between elements of the National Guard, State Police and personnel from the municipality of Concordia, who came to secure the area and begin working on the removal of the vehicles with the support of cranes.
The discovery of the bodies and the closure of the Mazatlán-Durango highway add to a series of violent incidents recorded in the south of Sinaloa in the last hours. One of the most recent events was an armed confrontation in the mountain area of Concordia, which left seven people dead and two injured, transported to Mazatlán to receive medical attention.
