Mazatlán Sea of ​​Cortez Grand Aquarium, an inclusive space for everyone

MAZATLÁN.- The Gran Acuario Mazatlán Mar de Cortés is preparing to become one of the most inclusive attractions in the destination, as well as scientific and educational. From Mexican sign language to descriptive tours for the visually impaired.

Adreissa Lizette Páez Michel, director of Science Communication at Gran Acuario, mentioned that the facility has a multidisciplinary team that prepares every day to provide specialized care so that everyone leaves happy.

“We are on this path, we are in this process. My team is preparing with training in Mexican sign language… we want everyone to be able to speak sign language and be able to attend,” he said.

According to the World Federation of the Deaf, there are approximately 70 million deaf people worldwide. In México, according to INEGI figures, approximately 2.3 million people suffer from hearing disabilities. Hence, explained Páez Michel, comes the intention to be responsible with the environment.

“Our aspiration is inclusion, that is the goal, and not because we presume that we are an inclusive place, it is an obligation of all places to offer decent spaces for everyone, we want to be that and set an example.”

For the past 5 years, September 23 has been commemorated as the International Day of Sign Languages. For the United Nations, it is very important that governments, but also all areas, encourage more people, companies and institutions to raise awareness about the importance of this form of communication.
