Mazatlán.- One of lime, for those that are made of sand. Fishermen from El Ostial, a shrimp farming community in the south of the municipality of Mazatlán, celebrate that the season started on the right foot: good catches and sizes.
On Wednesday, October 2, the ban was lifted, marking the start of the 2024-2025 capture season for this estuarine area in the south of Sinaloa.

The secretary of the “La Sinaloense” Cooperative, Miguel Ángel Torres, highlighted that, from the point near the community of El Walamo, they entered the El Huizache lagoon to begin the captures.
In that fishing site there are approximately 500 fishermen belonging to two cooperatives.
“We are all very happy, the two cooperatives at the fishing site achieved a good amount of product and a very good size of 8, 10 and 12 grams.
“The last two can be sold at a good price, which will give the community an economic respite,” he said.
The smaller shrimp, around 8 grams, he said, will be sold locally for consumption by residents and visitors.
He stressed that the effect of the moon greatly favored them, which contributed to good shrimp production.
The cooperative leader explained that everything indicates that the season will be good, better than the previous year.
“We hope that this will be a good cycle, not only for the fishermen, but for all the families that depend on this activity,” he concluded.
The fishermen of El Ostial are confident that if conditions continue to be favorable, they will be able to have a fruitful season.
With this, they stressed, their economy will improve, after facing difficult years in the fishing sector.
