Mazatlán, Sinaloa.- Everything is ready for Mazatlán to have its first female mayor. This Thursday, October 31, Estrella Palacios Domínguez will be sworn in as the new municipal president, marking a milestone in the history of the port by being the first woman to hold the position.
The outgoing mayor, Édgar González Zatarain, announced that the Council session will take place at 4 in the afternoon, following the protocol established by law to give way to the new municipal administration. “It is Thursday at 4 in the afternoon in the Cabildo, that is what the protocol is, the Council session, the swearing-in and obviously it is a normal protocol that you already know,” González Zatarain commented.
With this transition, Mazatlán will have its first female mayor, a fact that has generated great expectation among the inhabitants of the port. Estrella Palacios has already begun sending invitations to different local figures for her inauguration. However, González Zatarain indicated that he does not know if the incoming mayor has invited Governor Rubén Rocha Moya, since most of the elected mayors will be carrying out the same protocol around 5 p.m.
The arrival of Estrella Palacios Domínguez at the head of the municipal administration represents a significant change in local politics. This historic event in which Mazatlán will have its first female mayor is seen as a step forward in the inclusion and representation of women in leadership positions.
