*Beach Operator assures that a dialogue process has already begun
Dozens of surfers demonstrated this Thursday against the privatization of beaches, since yesterday, access to Playa el Camarón located on the side of the Valentinos Expressway was blocked.
During the protest, citizen Lilia Orrante called on the municipal president, Estrella Palacios, to address this situation as soon as possible, as she stated that the last administration granted a permit to build in this area, affecting merchants, surfers and tourists.
“Now it turns out that Mazatlán belongs only to foreign investors, and where are those of us who live here, those of us who have our house here, now we can’t go to the beach?”
The head of the Beach Operator, Ángel García, attended the demonstration on behalf of the president of Mazatlán, Estrella Palacios, and reported that a process has already begun, mainly to notify the owners to reach an agreement.
The official pointed out that in 2020, a paragraph was added to the Federal National Assets Law, which says that for no reason should public access to the federal zone or to the maritime beaches be inhibited, prohibited, restricted or conditioned, therefore , anyone who violates the law could be fined up to more than one million 200 thousand pesos.
“The vast majority of these businessmen are unaware of the laws or do not enforce them, so the procedure to enforce them is to notify the owners and notify SEMARNAT that it is their legal responsibility to proceed, if applicable, if they do not do the I urge the City Council to do so, we are going to give it to the Ministry of the Environment to fine,” he explained.
The authorities indicated that since it is private land, at the moment the City Council cannot remove the fence, however, the surfer community chose to tear down the fence that obstructed the passage to said area.
