México CITY/ La Jornada.- Federal authorities arrested Alejandro Palacios Benítez in the Tlatlaya municipality, State of México, Cholo Palacios who was head of the Guerreros Unidos plaza in the municipalities of Taxco, Huitzuco de los Figueroa and Tepecoacuilco, Guerrero and who is involved in the disappearance of the 43 Ayotzinapa normalistas in September 2014.

The Security Cabinet reported that Palacios Benítez was detained on Independencia Avenue in the Nuevo Copaltepec community, based on an arrest warrant issued against him for the crimes of organized crime and forced disappearance.

According to the information released, personnel from the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) participated in the operation, in collaboration with authorities from the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), the National Guard and the secretariats of the National Defense (Defense) and the Mexican Navy (Semar), who corroborated the information obtained by the National Intelligence Center (CNI).

The Cholo PalacesAccording to government information, “he planned to emigrate with his family to the United States to avoid being detained, but he was captured in the Municipality of Tlatlaya where he lived with his wife and two minor children.”

As head of the plaza in the municipalities of Huitzuco, Taxco and Tepecoacuilco, he was in charge of carrying out kidnappings, floor charge and he is attributed, in addition to his participation in the so-called Iguala Case, with the disappearance of at least eight people in the municipality of Cocula.

During the investigations related to the disappearance of the Ayotzinapa normalistas, Gildardo López Astudillo, another of the regional leaders of Guerreros Unidos, declared to the authorities that Palacios Benítez was related to the attacks and disappearance committed against the normalistas students on September 26, 2014, and that Cholo Palacios was responsible “for the ambush on the Los Avispones soccer team bus and the attacks committed on private vehicles and taxis on the Santa Teresa cruise.”
