Escalation of attacks: The war between Ukraine and Russia escalates

México CITY.- After the recent Russian attack with the Oreshnik hypersonic missile against Ukrainian territory, Ukraine will ask the United States to transfer defense systems capable of intercepting intercontinental missiles, according to what the Ukrainian Army declared to the Ukrinform agency.

The options they are evaluating are modernized Patriot systems and Aegis missiles.

This request arises after Russia used the Oreshnik, a newly created hypersonic ballistic missile, which hit Dnipro after traveling 1,000 kilometers in just 15 minutes, reaching a speed greater than Mach 11.

The attack was interpreted as an escalation in the war, in response to Ukraine’s use of ATACMS and Storm Shadow missiles, supplied by the United States and the United Kingdom.

Urgent NATO meeting

Consequently, Ukraine asked NATO for an urgent meeting, to be held next Tuesday in Brussels at ambassadorial level, to analyze this threat.

International leaders expressed their concern. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk called the situation a “serious threat of global conflict,” while German Chancellor Olaf Scholz condemned the launch as a “horrible escalation.”

Ukrainian intelligence indicated that the Oreshnik was launched from the Kedr complex in Russia’s Astrakhan region and carried multiple warheads with submunitions, reinforcing the urgency to reinforce Ukraine’s defenses.
