«Given the climbing of the New World Barking worm, México must eliminate the restrictions to the USDA aircraft (Department of Agriculture) and exempt from customs tariffs to the eradication team.
“These barriers seriously harm our joint response,” he said.
In his letter, he said that if there was no solution for the end of the month he would close the ports to animals from México to protect the agriculture of his country.
For his part, Berdegué Sacristán reported that he replied “promptly” Brooke Rollin’s letter.
Through his X account, the head of Agriculture said that like President Claudia Sheinbaum, “we act with the cold head.”
Berdegué reiterated that they collaborate and cooperate, but they never subordinate and that it is sure that good agreements will be reached.
How does the boreride worm affect?
The boreride worm represents a serious risk, since it infects cattle, wildlife and, in exceptional cases, human beings.
These larvae penetrate the skin of live animals, causing severe and even mortal damage.
Before the detection of the boreride worm, México was the main provider of cattle to the United States.
According to data from the US Department of Agriculture, last month only 24 thousand heads of cattle were imported, a drastic fall compared to the 114 thousand of the previous year.
