Under the leadership of the rector, Dr. Jesús Madueña Molina, the Autonomous University of Sinaloa (UAS) has made unprecedented advances in the sports field, consolidating its role as national and international power in high university performance. As part of Axis 3 “University Extension and Cultural Diffusion” of the Institutional Development Plan with Vision of Future 2025, university sport has lived a stage of integral strengthening that is reflected in both results and infrastructure.

“The university, in this process with the rector, began with the monitoring of the intramuros and inter-facts, attending to a large registration of university students who carry out their sports activities on our courts. Here we can say that it is around 12 thousand university students who participate, and this is a seedbed that is being formed.”
This was announced by Dr. Gilberto Berrelleza Reyes, head of the General Directorate of Sports, by reviewing the most relevant advances, where he stressed that the last year has been one of the most fruitful in the recent history of the Rosalina Casa, when registering historical participations of university athletes in world -class events such as the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

“The strongest letter we have had is the renown and prestige that gives us Marco Verde, in boxing, in the Olympic Games, where the final disputes and we obtain the silver medal (…) We must also mention our Paralympics, such as Rosa María, who has twice in Paralympic Games and has put us in the podium with bronze medals (…) and Pauleth Mejía, a young woman. He has been after and that in the past Paralympics he managed to give his brand. ”
He said that this performance in the international scenario adds to the results obtained in national competitions such as the National University, where the UAS has shown remarkable growth. In that same context, he announced the debut of the Rosalina Casa in the National University Championships Anuies, with the most numerous delegation and with high expectations of maintaining the quality and competitiveness standards that characterize the university sport.
In addition to competitive achievements, Axis 3 contemplates the strengthening of infrastructure as a priority to guarantee optimal conditions for the integral development of students. In that sense, Berrelleza Reyes stressed the modernization and expansion of various sports spaces.

“Our rector, Dr. Jesús Madueña Molina, made a commitment, and above all he fulfilled it, monitoring the remodeling of sports facilities with the polygon, where the baseball fields, a tennis court, were rehabilitated, a tennis court, the pool was covered and the boiler was placed. The halterfilia gym was also attended, which was a commitment assumed before the results that this Discipline, ”he said.
Finally, he ratified the institution’s commitment to sports as an essential axis in the formation of integral citizens, highlighting the institutional support of Dr. Jesús Madueña Molina and the joint work between coaches, technical staff and athletes.
