Official Closure of México City Metro Line 3: When Will Service Be Suspended and Renovation Begin? Date

Since the renovation of México City Metro Line 3 was announced, many people wanted to know if service would be suspended in 2025 to begin construction. After an initial bidding phase, the official date for the repairs to begin is finally known. Here, we tell you when the Universidad and Indios Verdes stations in México City will close.

Last February, México City authorities confirmed that the closure of México City Metro Line 3 would not take place in 2025. However, what is happening this year is the bidding dispute over which company will be in charge of carrying out the modernization of the green line. In this article, we show you the key dates of this process.

When will Metro Line 3 close?

In the publication of Clara Brugada’s First Government Report, it was announced that Line 3 will close in December 2026, with dates yet to be announced. This renovation includes the renovation of its infrastructure and stations, as well as the acquisition of 45 new trains.

The entire bidding process is expected to be completed by March 2026. For now, it is unknown exactly how long Metro Line 3 will be closed, but it is possible that the modernization work could take more than a year due to the length of the route.

What will the closure of CDMX Metro Line 3 involve?

During the renovation period, scheduled station closures will be implemented to carry out rehabilitation work on the electrical, hydraulic, and signaling systems, as well as the modernization of fixed installations and accessibility features.

For now, it remains to be seen which stations will be closed first and which ones will be closed later, but it is already a given that the renovation of CDMX Metro Line 3 will begin in December 2026. By then, Line 1 is expected to be fully operational.
