The Sinaloa Train is projected as a landmark project that will integrate Sinaloa with world-class tourism corridors. It is currently in the planning stage by Fonatur, explained Codesin General Director Mercedes Dorado Beltrán, noting that it is undoubtedly emerging as a strategic project for connectivity and tourism development in the region, projecting a connection between Mazatlán and Los Mochis with a broader vision that includes its extension to Nayarit.
Dorado Beltrán emphasized that the plan not only seeks to improve mobility but also to generate a tourism corridor capable of connecting international destinations.
She explained that one of the project’s main attractions will be the possibility of connecting Mazatlán, a port of international importance, with El Fuerte, the municipality that serves as the entry point for the Chepe train, a route that leads to the Copper Canyon in Chihuahua. This corridor would attract more international visitors who currently come to Sinaloa.
“The train is intended to be tourist-oriented. We want each stop to be attractive to visitors and for it to become a true ally in the state’s economic and tourism development,” he said.
Dorado Beltrán emphasized that Codesin will support the project from the regions, working hand in hand with the State Secretariat of Tourism and the State Secretariat of Public Works to ensure its technical, economic, and political feasibility. This investment will not be lost, as has happened with so many other announced federal projects that never came to fruition, such as the IMSS National Medicine Distribution Center, which never arrived.
According to the project’s own projections, construction is expected to begin in 2026, so the next stages will focus on defining routes, stations, and the necessary infrastructure to take advantage of the project’s tourism potential.
