Mazatlán.- After several days without being able to go out to fish due to the strong waves left by the remnants of hurricanes Priscilla and Raymond, artisanal fishermen from Playa Norte received 60 pantries with basic products this Tuesday from the Municipal DIF.
The president of the Artisanal Fishermen’s Cooperative, Édgar Moya, explained that the delivery was managed through the Secretariat of Economic Development, Tourism and Fisheries (Sedectur), with the aim of mitigating the effects suffered by families in the fishing sector in recent days.
“The support comes at a good time, because the bad catches have hit us hard. Not only here in Playa Norte, but also in other coastal areas of Mazatlán there are reports of little fishing.”

For a week, fishermen could not go out to work due to the waves, which also caused material damage to their boats. According to Moya, two boats were destroyed and at least eight were severely affected.
Constant support for fishermen
The Director of Fisheries of the Sedectur, Hugo Alonso Espinoza García, explained that the support was given to the same number of fishermen, and announced that they will continue to manage resources to meet the needs of the sector.
“On instructions from the municipal president, Estrella Palacios Domínguez, we are accompanying the fishermen in these difficult times. This support will be constant while conditions improve,” Espinoza said.

The men of the sea trust that the weather will soon allow them to resume work, while the authorities maintain their commitment to supporting the fishing sector, one of the most emblematic of Mazatlán.
