México CITY.- The United States launched “Operation Southern Spear”, a mission to combat drug trafficking in Latin America, led by the Southern Command and the Joint Task Force Southern Spear.
According to Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, this action seeks to “expel narco-terrorists from our hemisphere and protect our homeland from drugs.”
As part of the deployment, the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford is headed to the Caribbean, a move not seen in the region for decades. Experts interpret the arrival of this ship as a warning to the regime of Nicolás Maduro, accused of leading the Cartel of the Suns in Venezuela.
The operation includes military exercises near the Venezuelan coast, CIA actions and attacks on ships in the Caribbean and the Pacific, with more than 75 deaths according to official sources.

The Venezuelan regime responded with massive mobilization of troops and civilians. The Minister of Defense, Vladimir Padrino López, announced exercises with air, naval and missile resources to “confront imperialist threats.”
The operation also provoked regional reactions: Colombia temporarily suspended intelligence exchange with the US, while México reinforced surveillance of suspicious vessels in international waters to avoid confrontations.

Specialists agree that the deployment seeks to send a message of pressure rather than direct intervention. Retired Colonel Mark Cancian points out that the ship will not remain in the region for long, while Professor David Smilde assures that the operation attempts to maintain a credible and deterrent threat against drug trafficking and Venezuelan influence.
