México CITY.- México received an invitation that does not go unnoticed. During her morning conference on Tuesday, January 27, President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed that the US president, Donald Trump, proposed that the country join his Peace Council, an initiative announced and signed recently at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
The answer, Sheinbaum clarified, will not be immediate. The issue is already in the hands of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), which will analyze the invitation closely, taking into account the diplomatic implications and México’s historical position in foreign policy.
“Yes, we received the invitation from President Trump, but the SRE has to review it. We must consider that México recognizes Palestine as a nation, so in a few days we will give a response.”

Sheinbaum stressed that these types of decisions are not made personally or improvised, but rather based on the Constitution and the principles that guide the country in the international arena. Among them, he highlighted the self-determination of peoples and the peaceful resolution of conflicts.
In closing, the president reiterated that the analysis will be done with responsibility and coherence, and announced that México’s official response will be given during the course of this week. Participation in any international council, he said, must be aligned with the country’s values and foreign policy.
