March of the 8M in Culiacán culminates with iconoclasm at the City Hall

The commemorative march for International Women’s Day concluded this Sunday with interventions at the Culiacán City Hall, whose façade was covered with red paint as part of an action of iconoclasm carried out by some of the participants.

The mobilization began at City Hall, located in the center of the city, and progressed through various streets until reaching the Government Palace, where groups and attendees gathered to issue slogans against gender violence, femicides, and impunity.

During the rally, a group of protesters threw red paint on the façade of the Municipal Palace, an action that within the feminist movement is identified as iconoclasm, a form of symbolic protest that intervenes in monuments or institutional buildings to make social demands visible and question power structures.

The color red used in the intervention has been used in various feminist protests in the country as a symbol that represents the violence faced by women and the demand for justice for the victims.

The march took place with the participation of feminist groups, families of victims and citizens who joined the day of protest and memory that takes place every year in different cities of the country within the framework of March 8.

Throughout the tour, slogans were also heard and interventions were made with posters and graffiti in different parts of the city center, in which effective public policies were demanded to prevent violence against women and guarantee their right to a life free of violence.

International Women’s Day is commemorated every March 8 in different countries around the world with marches and activities that seek to make gender inequalities visible and demand justice in the face of violence faced by women and girls.

According to data from the State Attorney General’s Office, so far in 2026, 11 women have been victims of feminicide in Culiacán, in 2025 there were 44 women and in 2024 there were 15 cases.

Butter-Fried Plantains

Plantains are cooking bananas that are used both green and ripe. Green, they’re treated as a starchy, not-at-all-sweet, potato-like vegetable to boil or fry as chips. As the fruit ripens, its sweetness
