Retirees and pensioners from Mazatlán have formed a coalition with the Sinaloa Anti-Imperialist Front to express their discontent with what they claim are U.S. interventions in other countries, an issue that has sparked international debate surrounding the role of foreign powers in sovereign “imperialist” affairs.
The alliance brings together members of the “Professor Elpidio Domínguez Castro” civil association of retirees and pensioners and the anti-imperialist collective from Culiacán.
Representatives of the coalition stated that their union arose in response to recent international events, including the alleged detention of President Nicolás Maduro Moros by the United States, an episode that has shaken anti-imperialist movements worldwide.
Although some international media reports mention tensions and actions by the U.S. against governments like that of Venezuela, groups in Sinaloa assert that these situations represent “attacks on the sovereignty of nations” and reiterate their rejection of what they consider external interventions.
The “Professor Elpidio Domínguez Castro” Civil Association of Retirees and Pensioners and the Anti-Imperialist Front of Culiacán agreed to work together to expand the reach of their protest actions and outreach in different municipalities of Sinaloa.
They explained that their objective is to promote a critical stance against what they describe as imperialist interventions in various regions of the world, and that the coalition also seeks to include more social and civil organizations in the state.
Carlos Ramón López Torres, the state representative of the retirees’ group, affirmed that the defense against what they consider aggressions by foreign powers must be a unified cause across various municipalities.
He asserted that Sinaloa is linked to the fight against imperialism at the national level, after becoming part of the Mexican Anti-Imperialist and Anti-Fascist Front, a network that seeks to consolidate efforts in defense of sovereignty and against foreign interference.
