Four suspects arrested for murder of judge

The Zacatecas Attorney General’s Office reported that four arrest warrants were executed this Saturday against those likely responsible for ordering and carrying out the murder of Judge Roberto Elías Martínez, whose crime was orchestrated from prisons and by members of a criminal group. .

In a press conference that was headed by Governor David Monreal, the prosecutor explained that the solid line of investigation shows that two of those involved: José Julián and/or Ángel Said; as well as Leopoldo Ismael, they were the ones who perpetrated the armed aggression against the control judge of Río Grande, under the orders of the brothers Marco Antonio and/or José Isabel; and Fernando, orchestrated from prisons, since both are incarcerated for various crimes, members of organized crime.

He explained that, in these eight days, after the attack against Judge Elías Martínez was registered, it was possible to “articulate a solid line of investigation” that led to 11 search warrants in different parts of the municipalities of Guadalupe and Zacatecas, as well as as a series of intelligence work that made it possible to establish that the two people who committed the aggression are being investigated as co-perpetrators of the crime of qualified homicide, since “those who carry it out together with others are responsible for the crimes.”

While the brothers who are inmates in the Cieneguillas men’s prison and in the penitentiary center of the judicial district of Río Grande, will be investigated as mediate perpetrators, explaining that the law states that “whoever takes him to carried out using others as an instrument”.

Francisco Murillo mentioned that after 2 in the afternoon this Saturday, the detainees were placed at the disposal of a control judge so that within the established legal term he can resolve their legal situation regarding this homicide.

He also pointed out that within the line of investigation he led to the conclusion that the judge ruled on some of the matters of one of the brothers who is being held in the Río Grande prison, which leads to the conclusion that the reason could be for the jurisdictional performance of the judge: “for perhaps having denied some of the requests made by the accused.”

When asked if those responsible for the murder of the judge belong to a criminal group, the prosecutor replied: “Yes, the two men who are inside the jail could have a relationship, those who are outside, apparently where until now, in this investigation prosecuted, they do belong to a particular criminal group”, without specifying any name of the criminal group.

He also pointed out that in this case the progress is made known because it is a relevant case, in addition to “being a public figure and for being a member of the Judiciary and for harming State institutions.”

For his part, the governor in his speech stressed that these arrests were “thanks to coordinated work and intelligence” and because it was an objective to clarify these facts and send a message to the public, in addition to responding “to the call of the victims and prevent those who commit these reprehensible acts from walking freely through the streets thinking that they can evade the law.”
